Adirondacks
Almost everyone I know, if asked whether they'd live on the beach or in the mountains, would in a heart beat say 'the beach'. I don't think I'll ever get that, because for me, nothing beats the beauty of a nice mountain sunrise or sunset. I don't live in the Alps, or the Rockies, or one of those remote villages in Nepal with some giant Buddhist head that someone magically lugged up 20,000 ft. But I think I'm fortunate to live right in the middle of three great mountain ranges: the Berkshires, the Catskills, and most impressive, the Adirondacks. I've only been a few times, and even rarer up one of the peaks above 4,000 ft, but the magnificence of these peaks never ceases to amaze me.

Columbus Day Cousin Hike
A beautiful autumn day, birds chipping in the forest, distant views of the lake... what could be more peaceful? Pretty much anything, if you know my cousins, and when you get the entire group of us together in one spot for any length of time... it's gonna be anything but peaceful. But, between the moments you consider pushing one off the cliff, it's an amazing time and with great views and even greater company. And the best part is, somehow we made it all back alive.

Father's Day Hike with Dad
Managing to convince your Dad to take the day off of work is one thing, convincing him to climb a steep mountain with hundreds of black flies is another thing entirely. For a father and son who go on hikes all the time, it's difficult to pick a favorite, but a special early Father's Day hike such as this certainly ranks pretty high on the list. Plus, after the hike, Friendly's for dinner makes all the sweat worth it.

"Wait, there's snow up there?"
When it's late October and the trees at home are just past peak color, the last thing on your mind when planning a hike is snow (at least, as a rookie). But as you journey ever higher up the mountain, the bright yellow forest turns silver and white with every hundred feet of elevation. By the final leg of the hike, you realize you've left fall entirely and entered a winter wonderland. You may be totally unprepared, but you're also totally awestruck at the enchanting wintery world before you.
